The Pure of Heart

The Pure of Heart

We taught Aleita a lot this week. Oh, I love her. She started crying because she doesnt want me or Sister Mullen to leave. She said that she is so sad that we will not be here forever.

We are teaching Valherra and she is getting baptized this next week with her son who is 8. We still have many things to teach them before next week. Also today we are going to start teaching her 19 year old son. But she is amazing. She cant wait to be baptized. I am so happy for them. I know that this church is going to bless their lives so much.  I know the Lord helps us so much.  He helps me everyday!!! Every time I open my mouth!

We found her in an interesting way.  One morning while walking we saw her running and we stopped her and tried to talk to her and she didnt want anything. But when we went to visit a less active member, who did not show, guess who was there! Valhenna, the lady that we saw running and she said that we could teach her. Thats how we found her! Oh, I love her.  The Lord truly helps us find those who are ready to hear the gospel.

Also we knocked doors this week and we came accross this guy with no shirt on and who was so drunk.  He said to come back a different day. Ha my companion and I thought for sure that this would not go anywhere, but then we had a great lesson with him and he said that he wanted to be baptized. I need to have more faith and not judge!

The Good and the Bad :)

Also we ate with a member this week. :) it was good and we had chicken and rice. It really good.

So my companion and I get a lot of new investigators but we have a hard time getting a lesson with them and then many of them fall through. We are working hard on that!

Also people here love dogs and cats! They are everywhere! Hahah and they are not that cute. Anyway,  this week there was this scary one that was black and looked like it had flees! GROSS!! It chased me and my companion--we ran away from it screaming! Oh it was so scary! hahh yeah.

Many people here know English because most of their tv shows and movies are all in English with  Portuguese subtitles.

I know that this church is true! I want others to have it in their lives so bad! I know that it will bless them. I love prayer! I love church!  I have to speak next week.  I think that I will speak on Christ's attributes.

Also today for pday we went out for lunch and it was so good :). Also we went on this glass elevator, the view was beautiful! Oh it was so cool!! :)

Helping Bring Others to Christ

Training
We went on divisions this week with the Sister training leaders. It was so good! I went with Sister Gange, she is from Hawaii. We talked to so many people...we talk to so many people every day! We talked to a real interesting  guy that we taught when we went door knocking.

This week we also had training in Lisbon. We talked about how we need to be speaking our language all the time. This is something that I need to do better. Ugh, the language stresses me out so much. I just need to open my mouth!!

After the training we went to the mall and it was huge! We ate super good lunch there! We also had our president interviews. It went good and President Fluckiger is really nice.

All Types of Members: Less-Active, Active, and Soon-to-be
But this week we went to teach a less active member, Neilsa, She said that she didnt believe anymore and she had questions about Adam and Eve so we gave her 2 Nehpi 2 to read. When we went to teach her again she wasnt there, so we decided to teach her mom who is not a member. Then the next time we taught the whole family together. We taught the plan of salvation and how families can be together forever. Valhelia, the mom was so touched and said that she wanted to be baptized. Then she asked how old you have to be baptized and said 8 and she said "great so my son can be baptized too!!" Oh, it was so great! :) So they are set to be baptized on the 22nd. They came to church. I am always stressed at church when an investigator is there because I never know how they are feeling about things! I am really bad at reading people. But they liked it and she had questions about some of the commandments! Oh I really hope that they get baptized! I know the gospel will bless their lifes so much!

Alieta was confirmed this week!! :) She is great! She has no money, but she sacrifices to come! :) We still are teaching her.

Also last night we had family night with the family of that cute little girl that i sent a pic of! I love that family! They are inactive. We had pop corn and watched a movie :)

Miracles Galore in Portugal

1st Baptism

So first......... BAPTISM!!!! One of our investigators was baptized this week!! Her name is Aleita!!! I love her :)! She is so great! I was so happy. I couldnt stop smiling! She was so happy too!! SHe kept saying thank you and she calls us her daughters hahah. She said thank you so much for helping me coming to this church. Ohhh she is great!

Aleita lives right on the ocean but, she nothing and no money. This week for service I helped her with her job resume. I hope she can get a job. A girl that is fluent in English and Portuguese translated what I wanted to ask ALieta and then I would tell her what to write down. That is what we did for service this week.

Calling to Grow

Hahha and you know how I dont have a musical bone in my body..  hahha well they decided to choose me to lead....! Scary! I couldnt do it at all, let alone sing in Portuguese!!!! But there was a point that I just started "writing" my name in the air in cursive and just smiled!! This is just one  of many embarrassing moments I have had so far! :)

Language Mixups :)

Speaking of embarassing moments hahah I forgot to tell you about when I first talked in Portuguese. We were teaching this girl named Daisy and I told her that I was 90 instead of 19 hahah I just started laughing haaha!

Oh and I cried in the middle of the street this week. I was so frustrated with the language! I still have nooooooooo idea what people are saying and I speak like i am 2!!! It is really embarrassing. But I am trying to stay patient with myself and work hard.

Contacting Miracle

We need to find new investigators! :) We do alot of walking and contacting! My legs hurt so bad at the end of the day! Contacting freeks me out!! But I just have to do it!! Missionary work is really hard, but  I love the gospel and I am trying my best.

Oh and when we were walking around tracting this week we ran into this woman. We started talking to her and found out that she had lost her husband and so we told her that she will see him again. She started bawling and hugged us and said that she would come to church. She was so eager to get our number! (hahah that is so rare)! :)

Preparation Day Adventure

Also this week for pday we went to Cristo Rei. Wow the view was AMAZING!!!! Dont worry I took so many pictures! I loved it! We went with our whole district and we ate at this yummy pizza place. Haha, but it was so hot! But we have such a sweet district! Sorry I cant send pics :( I guess the computers take too long)

Interesting Facts About Portuguese

THEY LOVE SOCCER!!!!!! I LOVE IT!!!! hahhahah but then I dont love it cause you know when there is a game because no one is on the streets and no one wants to talk to you! Haha and they honk in the streets and it is great!

ALso they kiss each other on their cheecks and I had to get used to that!

Portugal Just Seems to Get Better and Better

Lessons
We taught this 13 year old girl. She was so cute! I taught her about Joseph Smith and I bore my testimony that she was a daughter of God and that God loved her. I just wanted her to know that so bad!!! I wanted to give her such a big hug!!!

We also taught this other man Pedro and we taught the 3rd lesson. It was good cause I talked more! But the language stresses me out so much!!! I need not to stress but it just does! But so many times the Lord will bless me with the spirit to guide me! I was glad for the break of those few days because I have been stressing too much.

Also we got fed by another member. We will every tuesday! They must of thought that we were football players because that is how much they wanted us to eat! AHHHHHH!  :) But this member cooked good food! :)

A Great Bunch of Missionaries
My companion is a rock!!! Oh my goodness she is so great! she was in so much pain but all she wanted to do was help other people! I am so grateful for her wonderful example! She works so hard! She kinda reminds me of Joe hahah and she likes to dance and sing and she is just funny!

Also we had district meeting this week and it was great! We have great elders that are in our district! It is really important that we focus on the less actives!

A Typical Day in the High-Heels of Sister Hickey
Also we got to go running once this week but most of the time we work out inside!  Also on a typical day we wake up, work out, personal study and then companion study, then train, then go out, then lunch, then language study, then go out street contacting, door knock or teach investigators!

I love church! It is so amazing! It is the thing that is most similar to home! The feeling there! Everyone is happy and kind and I just love it! I want more people to come so bad! There is hardly anyone there!!!! But the members are amazing! Brother Tino comes with us all day and helps us teach.  It is so amazing and members have to sacrafice so much! I just love this gospel!

A Great First Week in Portugal

Arrival to Portugal
After we got off the plane we went to hotel Roma and it was where the first church meeting was held in portugaul. we all stayed there because there was not enough room in the mission home. there were 55 of us crazy! we got dinner lunch and breakfast there and it was so nice!! Then we found out our companions the next day. My companion is Sister Mullen she has only been here 6 weeks????!! hahah! She is 21 and from canada. She is super great! I am serving in..... Almada!!!!!!!!!! IT IS SO PRETTY!!! I love my area!!
Hahah so I had to pull my bright blue luggage everywhere up all the cobble stones!!
IT has rained a little but it hasnt bothered me. It is just a little cold. I didnt get a embrella. Oh and guess what hahah me and sister beard are in the same appartment.
Amazing Members
Also the first day we were fed dinner by a member. We were fed duck and rice and bird pooh dessert hahah it was actually good. They were super great! They were like the only family in our ward and they are great!
BUt the members here are amazing!! Some will come with us all day! Some have to walk like a hour to get to church!!! THey are so good!! WE went to church with one of our investigators ALieta and it was just so refreshing to see nice people and the difference that the church can make in peoples lifes!!! Aleita like church but doesnt feel ready to be baptized we are going to help her though.
Amazing Companion
ALso My companion rocks!! She is fearless!!!!!!!!!!!!!! She goes up to anyone and knocks on a million appartment doors and just rocks especially for not knowing the language that well!! She told me most the time she has no idea what they are saying but it seems like she does hahhah!! She is great!! I have a really hard time with the language.. I dont say alot. But at every door I would try to bare testimony ;) But I am trying so hard!!!!! I want to talk so I can help these people!!!! Also my companion is super nice and I just love her!! :)

Amazing Investigators
Hahah so another story.. So Carman is another one of our investigators. She has two kids (who are so cute) and works and her husband works. So my companion taught the 3rd lesson and I would bare testimony at parts. Then when my companion was asking her to read I felt like I should invite her to be baptized! So in my broken portuguese I invited her to be baptized! hahha and guess what? SHE said YES!!! But she still has to come to church twice before and she is supper busy so we will see!!!
